Ben Schneider was born in Wheeling, WV. His first experience with photography was while serving in the Army 3rd Infantry based at Ft Myer, Va. After his discharge from the Army, Ben earned a BS Degree in Commercial Art, with emphasis in photography, at West Liberty State College. Over the years, Ben has continued to enhance his education through seminars and workshops, and through additional coursework at the University of Maryland, Wheeling Jesuit College, and West Virginia Community College. He learned Portrait, and Wedding Photography under Master Photographer Jerry Interval.
Ben opened Schneider Studio in 1972. Initially, it offered full-service photography, graphic arts, and design studio services but he later expanded into aerial photography and became one of the only photographers in the area to do so. In addition to the studio work, Ben has shared his skills with others, serving as an adjunct photography teacher at West Virginia Northern Community College, and West Liberty State College. He has been showing his work and entering competitions since 1970.
In 1986, after nearly fifteen-years of operating a full service, film-based, photography business, including in-house color, and black and white processing, Ben produced his first digital photograph. Today, Ben’s work is a mixture of enhanced, direct capture, and scanned negatives that he prints in-house using several different pigmented ink-jet processes.
